Sticks & Stones
Bachelors of Fine Art Solo Show
My current work explores gendered thinking and unconscious bias in social interactions, workplaces, and visual languages. The visuals we encounter daily can greatly influence the way we think about gender (both conformity and non-conformity to expected rolls). If “good design is invisible,” then its invisibility is dependent on our unspoken societal stereotypes and biases. Through video and a number of print methods I aim to explore how words and type affect our perceptions of ourselves and each other. The words that we use and the way that we use them can affect us in a deep way. My work references trailblazers in art and design in order to call attention to current conversations about gender and highlight voices that are often overlooked.
